KLEINFFLDER
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report summarizes the First Quarter 2005 groundwater sampling activities conducted in the
vicinity of an underground storage tank (UST) at the General Mills Facility located at 2000 West
Turner Road in Lodi, California
Groundwater samples were collected from each of the four monitoring wells, MWA, MW-2,
MW-3, and MW-4 on March 10, 2005 (Plate 1) The groundwater samples were analyzed for
total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons as referenced to diesel (TPH-D), purgeable
hydrocarbons as referenced to gasoline (TPH-G), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (BTEX)
No product or sheen was observed in the groundwater samples collected from wells MW-2, 3,
and 4 during this sampling event Approximately one-eighth of an inch of product and a strong
petroleum-like odor were noted in the initial purge water from MW-1
Groundwater elevations ranged from 0 35 feet at MW-2 to 1 37 feet at MW-4 The groundwater
flow direction was calculated to the southwest with an approximate gradient of 0 003 ftlft This
groundwater flow direction and gradient is consistent with previous quarterly sampling events
(See Table 1)
The analytical results for the groundwater samples collected are summarized in Section 5 and
Table 2 of this report TPH-D and TPH-G were detected in the groundwater sample collected
from MW-1 The concentration of TPH-D in MW-1 was 14 milligrams/liter (mg/1) and TPH-G
concentration was 1 5 mg/1 The BTEX constituents ethylbenzene and total xylene were detected
at concentrations of 1 4 micrograms/liter (µg/1) and 0 57µg11 in groundwater collected from MW-
1 None of the requested petroleum constituents, including TPH-G, TPH-D, and BTEX, were
detected in the groundwater samples collected from the down-gradient monitoring wells, MW-2
and MW-3, or from the upgradient well, MW-4 Based on the information obtained, it is
Kleinfelder's opinion that the groundwater contaminant plume is located in the vicinity of MW-1
and the existing UST area, and is apparently contained within perimeter monitoring wells MW-2,
MW-3 and MW-4 For a complete summary of our findings, including conclusions and
recommendations, please refer to Section 6 of this report
A copy of this report should be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Department, Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the State of California, Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) for their review and comment
This report, and the conclusions and recommendations presented, are subject to the "Limitations"
presented in Chapter 7 of this report Any party other than the client who would like to use this
report shall notify Kleinfelder, Inc of such intended use in writing for permission
i
28209 T06/STO5R717/LTV lv Page 1 of 11
C 2005,Kleinfelder, Inc June 23,2005
