kn KLEINFELDER
7 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
7.1 CONCLUSIONS
' 7.1.1 Soil
No unusual odors or soil discoloration was noted by Kleinfelder during logging and soil
sampling while installing the three new monitoring wells Concentrations of TPH-D, TPH-G,
and BTEX constituents were not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in four soil
' samples submitted for analyses from well borings MW-2,MW-3 and MW-4
7.1.2 Groundwater
Groundwater elevations ranged from a maximum of 4 73 feet above mean sea level (msl) at
1 MW-4 to 3 87 feet above msl at MW-2 Depth to water was measured approximately 35 feet
bgs Groundwater flow was towards the southwest with an approximate gradient of 0 003 ft/ft
No product or sheen was observed from groundwater associated with monitoring wells MW-2,
MW-3, and MW-4 A sheen and slight petroleum-like odor was noted in the groundwater from
monitoring well MW-1 No petroleum constituents were detected from the groundwater
samples collected from the two down-gradient monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3 or
upgradient well MW-4
TPH-D, TPH-G, ethylbenzene and total xylenes were detected in groundwater collected from
MW-1, located approximately 10 feet down-gradient of the UST area TPH-D was detected at
concentrations of 13 mg/1 and TPH-G at 2 5 mg/l Ethylbenzene and total xylenes were
detected from groundwater collected from MW-1 at concentrations of 16 µg/i and at 0 83 µg11,
respectively These concentrations are well below Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLS) for
ethylbenzene and total xylenes The State and Federal Primary MCL for ethylbenzene is 700
µg11 and the State and Federal Primary MCL for total xylenes is 1,750 and 10,000 µg/l,
respectively
Based on the information obtained, it is Klemfelder's opiluon that the extent of groundwater and
soil contamination seems to be limited to the immediate vicinity of MW-1 and contained within
perimeter wells MW-2,MW-3 and MW-4
20-1417-16 E04/ST02R038 Page 14 of 18
©2002 KlemfOder,Inc lune 7,2002
1
