28 February 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0795
2.0. PROCEDURES
On 08 and 12 February 2001, four soil probe borings (P-1 through P-4)were advanced at the site as
part of the site assessment related to former USTs located on the site. The field work was conducted
as outlined in the AGE-prepared, Phase II Site Assessment Work Plan dated 01 February 2001.
2.1. DRILLING ACTIVITIES
Probe borings P-1 through P-4 were advanced utilizing a truck-mounted Geoprobe 5400 equipped
with 1.125-inch diameter probe rods using"direct push"technology. Probe borings P-1 through P-3
were advanced vertically to a depth of 25 feet bsg to obtain soil samples. Probe boring P4 was
advanced to a depth of 72 feet bsg to obtain a ground water sample.
2.1.1. Soil Sample Collection
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals to total depth in borings P-1 through P-3 and to 15-
feet bsg in boring P-4. Each sample was collected utilizing a 1.125" Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. After collection, the ends of the second brass
sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve was
labeled with soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials and then placed in
a chilled container.
2.2.2. Ground Water Sample Collection
A grab ground water sample was collected from probe boring P-4 using a temporary PVC screen.
The probe rods were advanced to a depth approximately four feet below the water table. The hollow
steel rods were then removed, and a screened casing was inserted into the saturated zone. Ground
water was allowed to enter the casing, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing
bailer. Sufficient sample was collected to fill three 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0.5
ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a preservative and one 1-liter amber bottle without a sample
preservative. Ground water sample containers were labeled with probe boring designation, date,
time, and samplers initials and then placed in a chilled container.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
