Margaret La orio, Senior EHS
Subject: 1607 Sou h Turnpike Road
Dear Ms. Lagorio,
On April 29,1993, 1 meeting was held at the Public Health Services of San Joaquin
County, Environmental Health Division (445 N. San Joaquin Street). In
attendance was Bi Sousa, County Supervisor; Laurie Cotulla, EHD Program
Manager EHS; Die He Hinson, EHD Supervising EHS; Margaret Lagorio, EHD
Senior EHS; and n yself(Greg Gaut), property owner. I had requested this
meeting to open di cussion about the financial and physical impact that was being
applied to the bus' ess at 1607 South Turnpike Road.
I feel the theme of the meeting was, as Mr. Sousa stated it, "Not to run businesses
out of San Joaquin County" and TOPPS (Targeted Opportunities to Prevent
Pollution in Stockt)n). My concerns were that the County EHD was quoting
chapter and verse I rom some law book without reviewing the matter in a realistic
approach and cons deration of the impact to the business at the site. I also stated
that I was very intrested in resolving the problem, but felt that little purpose
would be served ir ten pounds of paper and thousands of dollars of testing and
"what ifs".
As the meeting prc gressed, I felt that a cooperative attitude by everyone was
bringing about a di rection that would be amenable to both sides. The monitoring
of the water depthand the water analysis of one well would be reasonable.
1607 TURNPIKE ROAD — P.O.
