Gaitan, Jason
From: Michael Plascencia <mplascencia@sunnyvalleysmokedmeats.com>
Sent: Wednesday, March 11, 2020 8:09 AM
To: Gaitan,Jason
Subject: RE: Return to compliance
Attachments: Lowry 2.18.20.pdf
Jason,
Please see below for my response to the unanswered questions...
Violation 102:1 need a disposal receipt for the removal of metal fines, latex gloves, waste aerosols and used metal oil filters.
Response states the contractor who brings used metal oil filters in, will be removing them as well, who is the contractor and is he a
licensed hazardous waste transporter?
- We do not have receipts for metal fines, latex gloves and waste aerosols yet. I would be happy to
provide a receipt upon first removal. The aerosol cans, metal fines & oily latex gloves all have
specific containers that have been labeled. We have no used aerosol cans at the time. George W.
Lowry removes all our used oil/oil products & will also dispose of the aerosol cans.
- Busch used oil filters: No receipt yet, as of now we have been draining them and throwing them
away, separate from other solids. Going forward, Busch is the name of the company that services
our vac pumps and their Tech will be taking filters back with him upon every visit.
Violation 301:How were the used oil, stains, absorbent and used oil filters cleaned? And what did you do to the waste generated
from cleaning?Response states that chemical on floor is not considered as hazardous waste, what is it considered as?
- All oil stains were cleaned with shop rags, and those rags are serviced by our uniform service,
UniFirst.
- Liquid on the floor of the storage container is mostly water. ChemStation cleans the floor with a
water hose. The sanitizer on the floor was due to the secondary containers not being pumped out
in a timely manner. With the secondary containers clean now, this will eliminate having the
sanitizing solution on the floor.
Violation 303:Secondary containers for used/product oils were cleaned/replaced. 1 need information on how they were cleaned and
what happened to the accumulating oil?
- Cleaned with shop rags. Old oil was pumped out and transferred into waste container, which was
hauled off by Lowry on 2/18/2020(see attached receipt).
Violation 403:how were the oil pans cleaned? And what happened to waste generated from the clean-up of oil pans?
- The used oil was transferred into a waste container and disposed of by Lowry on 2/18/2020.
Violation 406:Response states that empty containers will be labeled. The containers need to be immediately labeled with the date
they were emptied.
- We have made an agreement with Lowry to have empty drums removed immediately. There are no
empty/used drums currently in storage. They are immediately hauled off by Lowry. If we should
ever have an empty drum in storage, it will be labeled properly with date emptied. We feel like
having the empty containers hauled off immediately is much easier for us.
From: Gaitan,Jason <jgaitan@sjgov.org>
Sent: Friday, March 6, 2020 4:18 PM
