(c) (3) .) :
1) Collect soil and groundwater samples from dual-wall, air percussion
hammer borings to groundwater at approximately 100 feet below surface
grade.
2) A continuous log will be kept for each borehole based on the return
cuttings.
3) If no petroleum odor is detected in the cutting a soil sample would be
collected only every 20 feet until groundwater is encountered.
4) If field indicators suggest contamination in groundwater, the borehole
will be converted to a groundwater well.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1) San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) requests the
first borehole be continuously logged at every 5 foot interval regardless
of the soil cutting returns. Collection of soil samples from subsequent
boreholes should use the geological information gathered from the first
borehole as a guide in addition to the field data.
2) Groundwater samples must be collected for laboratory analyses even if
wells are not set.
3) EHD recommends setting wells 15 feet into and 5 feet above water table
instead of setting 20 feet into groundwater table as proposed in the work
plan.
4) Provide a working, properly calibrated organic vapor detector such as a
photoicnization detector in the field. Selection of soil sampling points
should not be dependent on olfactory detection of odor alone.
5) Schedule work with EHD before scheduling work with C-57 contractor.
6) EHD recommends you to apply for pre-approval to the State Cleanup Fund as
soon as possible if not already submitted.
7) Commence proposed work by August 12, 2002.
REASONS FOR DISAPPROVAL OF THE WORKPLAN (H&S 25299.37, subd.
