The 560 gallon waste-oil UST (State ID #11073004), the 1,000
gallon abandoned diesel UST,the 10,000 gallon diesel UST(State ID #11073002),the
7,000 gallon diesel UST(State ID #1798001) and the 6,500 gallon asphalt UST (State ID
#1798005) with its stockpiled soil pile, RMC Pacific Materials plans to conduct
preliminary subsurface investigations as to the extent of contamination to the surrounding
areas of each removal site. The goal of the investigation is to satisfy the requirements of
San Joaquin County by defining the extent of contaminated soils and to demonstrate that
site groundwater has not impacted by the contaminated soils.
Given the gravel and rock strata makeup of the region we do not expect extensive lateral
migration of contamination to have occurred. We propose to focus our main attention
vertically in each removal location. RMC Pacific, with the use of a contractor, will use a
Becker type drill rig to determine the extent of contamination. Borings will be undertaken
through the center of each removal site. The Los Angeles"25-foot rule"will be used
during drillings. The rule requires the completion of a boring 25 feet below the deepest
level of site contamination within the area of highest contamination. Samples will be
taken at five-foot intervals and submitted to an independent State certified laboratory to
be analyzed for Total petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel (EPA M-8015/DHS). All
analytical results will be submitted to SJ-PHS for determination of further action.
We look forward to receiving your response to our plan.
Robert Aldenhuysen
Environmental Coordinator
