rt rr Sy s1
• ZNA
Working To Restore Nature
Dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons and BTEX constituents were not detected in monitoring wells
MW1, MW4, MW5, and MW6 The sample collected from MW2 contained ethylbenzene,
xylenes, and TPHG at 3.4, 1 8, and 59 parts per billion (ppb), respectively. The sample
collected from MW3 contained ethylbenzene and TPHg at 350 and 780 ppb, respectively.
BTEX levels in wells MW2 and MW3 were below the respective Maximum Contaminant Levels
(MCLS) established by the Department of Health Services No MCLS have been established for
TPHg Laboratory results are summarized in Table 2. Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody
documentation are presented in Attachment 2
STOCKPILED SOIL
Excavated stockpiled soils previously documented to be impacted by petroleum hydrocarbon
constituents have remained on site since March 1991 excavation. The stockpiled soil has been
aerating in accordance with the exemptions specified in San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution
Control District (APCD) Rule 463 5: Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from
Decontamination of Soil
. c During a site visit on May 25, 1993 random soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil
by RESNA personnel and field screened with a flame ionization detector (FID) for the presence
of volatile organic vapors. No organic vapors were evident in the stockpiled soil
STATUS OF CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN
In correspondence dated September 28, 1993, PHS/EHD reiterated its request for a site
Corrective Action Plan (CAP) by November 11, 1993. Based upon the results of laboratory
analyses, groundwater samples collected from site wells contained low levels of dissolved
petroleum hydrocarbons However, detected contaminants were below State MCLS. Moreover,
no benzene was detected In any site wells in August 1993. Laidlaw Corporation maintains that
natural biodegradative processes are actively reducing residual hydrocarbons in groundwater
Active remediation does not appear to be necessary for this site
It is anticipated that confirmation samples will be collected during the fourth quarter of 1993
from the aerated soil stockpiled on site
Proj Disk1QUARTLYI3QR-1993 PNL 3
