3.2.1 Soil Sampling <br /> Phase 2 drilling was conducted by RESNA (C57 622930) utilizing a hollow stem auger drill rig <br /> A field geologist continuously logged all drill cuttings and cored soil samples utilizing the <br /> Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix III) Descriptions of soil types encountered and <br /> sample collection intervals are included on the boring/well logs (Appendix III) Cored soil <br /> samples were collected at five foot intervals using a 2-inch diameter split-spoon sampler <br /> containing three brass tubes The cored samples and drill cuttings were characterized for soil <br /> type, moisture content, and evidence of petroleum contamination Moreover, a PID was used <br /> as a screening device for the detection of petroleum hydrocarbon vapors in drill cuttings and <br /> 1 cored samples Soil samples collected from MW4 at depths of 5, 10, 15, and 20 feet were <br /> submitted for analysis in order to provide an indication of the vertical profile of any soil <br /> contamination Soil samples collected at the water table interface from each well were submitted <br /> for laboratory analysis Soil sampling results are summarized in Table 3 Laboratory data <br /> sheets and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Appendix V <br /> 3.2.2 Monitoring Well Construction <br /> Soil Borings MW4, MWS, and MW6 were subsequently completed as groundwater monitoring <br /> wells to further assess the extent of groundwater contamination beneath the site, and to provide <br /> measurement points for the determination of groundwater flow direction and hydraulic gradient <br /> IThe locations of the site monitoring wells are shown on Figure 4 <br /> Each well was constructed with 4-inch PVC casing The screened interval of each well was <br /> positioned from approximately 5 feet above to 15 feet below the encountered water table to allow <br /> for seasonal water level fluctuations The screen slot size is 0 01 inch <br /> 3.2.3 Groundwater Sampling <br /> On March 3, 1992, the wells were monitored and developed in accordance with RESNA's <br /> QA/QC Protocol (Appendix IV) Field purge logs are included in Appendix VII Water <br /> samples were then collected from all wells, placed on ice, and transported under chain-of- <br /> custody to Applied Analytical for analysis The samples were analyzed for BTEX and TPHG <br /> LCR492 TIL 6 <br />
