The valley is a nearly flat northwest to <br /> southeast trending alluvial plain, approximately 450 ,miles long by <br /> 50 miles wide, extending from the granitic. Sierra Nevada on the <br /> east to the metamorphic and sedimentary Coast .Ranges on the west. <br /> The valley is bound on the north , by the Klamath Mountains and on <br /> the south 'by the Tranverse Ranges.,.
