Turkatte:
'Phis letter is being submitted by RCSNA Industries on behalf of Laidlaw Corporation to present
the results of our 1991 fourth quarter groundwater monitoring and sampling at the above
referenced site (Figure 1).
BACKGROUND
t
On June 29, 1990, one underground xylene storage tank was removed at the project site(Figure
2) by Selnco Corp. of Modesto, California. Soil Samples were collected beneath the tank and
analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes(BTEX),and total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHG), by BC Laboratories, Inc., utilizing appropriate EPA and MIS
methodologies. Laboratory results indicated that soils beneath the former tank location had been
impacted by an unauthorized release. Soil analytical results are summarized in Table 1.
To prevent the contaminated material associated with the former xylene tank from presenting a
continued threat to groundwater, approximately 750 cubic yards of contaminated soils were
excavated from the project site. All xylene contaminated soils were excavated except where
physical barriers prohibited. Groundwater was encountered at approximately 15 feet below
ithin the satur^red zone were not excavated. Verification
grade during the excavation- Sails w
soil samples were collected from the excavation side walls. Soil analytical results are
summarized ill Table 1.
To assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination associated with the former xylene
tank, three soil borings (MW1, MW21 MW3) were advanced at the site. The borings were
wells to assess the impact on groundwater beneath the site.
subsequently converted to monitoring
