p..i
1.0 INTRODUCTION
•
This report is being submitted in anticipation of a request
by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
r'
Environmental Health Division for a subsurface investigation
at the Gardner property, 26056 Thornton Road, Thornton,
California (Figure 1).
On September 6, 1989, three underground gasoline storage
tanks were removed at the project site by Western Meter
' Service of Stockton, CA (Figure 2) . Soil samples were
collected beneath each tank and the associated piping. The
soil samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylenes (STE%), total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHG), tetra ethyl. lead (TEL), and ethylene
w dibromide (EDB), by California Water Labs utilizing
appropriate EPA and DHS methodologies. The analytical
results are summarized in section 2.5. The laboratory data
sheets and chain-of-custody documentation from the tank
removal are included in Appendix I. The presence of
elevated conct:ntrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in the
tank pit soil samples indicates further investigation will
be required to determine the lateral and vertical extent of
soil contamination at the project site.
2.0 BACKGROUND TECHNICAL DATA
2.1 Name and address of contact person:
Contact Person: Mr. Al Horlett
Wilson, Hoslett & Whitridge
504 Bank of Stockton Building
311 East Main Street
` Stockton, California 95202
2.2 Map showing site location, relative to nearby landmarks:
The site location is shown on Figure 1.
ky 2.3 Site plan
€ A site plan is presented on Figure 2.
i
2.4 Layout of all tanks and piping systems properly labeled for
content:
The former tank locations and existing pump island are
plotted on Figure 2.
2.5 Preliminary soil data:
Laboratory analysis of soil samples are summarized in Table
i 1•
1
