The plan shows the approximate
extent of the former excavation and the proposed monitoring well locations.
Task 2. Prepare a Health and Safety Plan-ESE will prepare a Health and Safety Plan to
provide guidelines for the safe completion of Work Plan tasks. The Health and Safety Plan
will address such issues as required personal protection for ESE and sub-contractor
personnel, required compliance under OSHA, emergency procedures, etc., based on
expected levels of contamination as established in earlier site investigations (Kleinfelder,
1988). It is expected that ESE and sub-contractor personnel will undertake site work such
as drilling, well installation and well sampling in Level D protection, as described in the
Health and Safety Plan.
Task 3. Obtain Permits and Permission-ESE will obtain permits to drill and install three
monitoring wells. ESE will obtain the required well permits from San Joaquin County
Health Department.ESE will also obtain permission from Mr.Jack Merrill, manager of the
Mainland Nursery, 50 West Turner Road, to conduct proposed field activities, such as
drilling, surveying and well sampling, for the well (MW-3) proposed to be located on
nursery property.
ESE has obtained the names and addresses of well owners in the site vicinity. In the event
that a site vicinity ground-water contour map is required by San Joaquin County Health
Department, ESE will contact the appropriate well owners for appropriate information,
such as geologic logs and records of water Ievel measurements.
Task 4. Establish Monitoring Well Locations-ESE will establish three monitoring well
locations around the 1987 tank excavation (Figure 2). One well (MW-1) will be located
south, presumably upgradient, of the former tank excavation. Proposed wells MW-2 and
MW-3 will be located north, presumably downgradient, of the former tank excavation, at
the approximate locations of soil samples taken during the tank excavation (ICleinfelder,
3
