The detection results are recorded, and compared with
results for other sample drives in the depth interval. The sample to be submitted for
analysis will be taken from the sample drive with the highest recorded readings in the depth
interval obtained by this method.
During drilling operations, the ESE field geologist will monitor air quality using a PID.
The ESE field geologist will measure concentrations of volatile organic compounds in air
at the top of the bore hole or top auger flight,
the driller's breathing space, and the
ambient air up-and down-wind from the bore hole. Measurements will be recorded in the
geologic field log. The ESE field geologist will follow the instructions in the Health and
_ Safety flan if sustained concentrations of volatile organic components in the driller's
breathing zone are above the action level (concentration, duration) specified in that plan.
The driller will stockpile soil cuttings produced in drilling the well bores on site. Soil
cuttings for each well bore will be piled on plastic sheeting and allowed to aerate. The soil
cutting piles will be disposed of based on results of soil analyses.
4-inch diameter, schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride
The three wells will be constructed using
(PVC)to a depth of 45 feet. The casing should be flush mounted and threaded. The well
screens will be 10 feet long and consist of. 0.02-inch slot. (An alternative method of
selecting the well screen slot width is based on sieve analysis of soil cuttings from the
interval to be monitored.) The top of the screen section will be set at the top of the first
(shallowest) water-yielding zone encountered in the well bore. Each well will have a
— bottom cap and 2-foot long silt trap at the bottom, and a locking, water tight cap on top.
The well sand pack will consist of Monterey Medium Aqua sand or equivalent commercially
available graded sand. The sand will be placed in the annulus between the hollow-stem
auger and the well casing, from the bottom of the well bore to 1 foot above the top of the
screen interval. For that depth interval of the sand pack that is below water, the sand will
