J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURES
A truck mounted drill rig using six—inch hollow—stem augers will be
utilized to drill the soil borings. To minimize sample contamination, all
augers and associated equipment will be steam—cleaned prior to the
drilling of each boring. Any equipment used for sample collection will be
cleaned with trisodium phosphate and rinsed with distilled water. All
drilling will be performed under the supervision of a Kleinfelder
k geologist who will log each boring as it is drilled.
k
Soil- samples will be collected by advancing the boring to a point
immediately above the sampling depth and then driving a Modified
California Sampler lined with three brass tubes into the soil. The
sampler will be removed from the bottom of the boring and the bottom tube
sealed with aluminum foil and caps. The samples will be immediately
stored in an iced cooler. All samples collected will be handled under
chain—of—custody control for sample integrity.
The borings will be backfilled with cement grout and the drill cuttings
will be stored; in 55—gallon drums. Arrangements must be made for the
drill cuttings ito be disposed of by the client or property owner, or held
for subsequent disposition.
CLIENT REQUIREMENTS
4
To perform this investigation, we require the following
o Location of all underground utilities and other subsurface
structures which could interfere with drilling operations or be
damaged!: during drilling. Failure to locate such lines or
structures and responsibility for any necessary corrective
actions, or resulting damage will not be the responsibility of
J.H. Kleinfelder & Associates. Contact will be made with
Underground Services Alert to notify public utility companies of
our proposed operations.
o Power :and water to operate a steam cleaner and an area on-site
where our hollow—stem augers can be steam cleaned. Steam
cleaning of the augers between borings is necessary to preclude
f
cross—contamination and sample bias.
Y
o Disposition of drill cuttings.
o Adequate access and working space.
f
3
