kn KLEINFELDER
elevation and gradient However, since only one monitoring well was installed at the site,
surveying was not needed because the site groundwater gradient cannot be evaluated with only
one well
A-4 GROUNDWATER MONITORING
A-4 1 Water Level Measurements
Water level measurements were made in the well prior to purging and sampling Measurement
Protocol was as follows:
1 The well was opened and allowed to equilibrate with the atmosphere
2. The water level probe was decontaminated in a tnsodium phosphate wash, followed by
a distilled water nnse, prior to use.
3 Water level measurements were made using a conductivity-based water-level meter.
Depth-to-water was measured from a mark on the north nm of the PVC well casing.
A-4 2 Groundwater Sampling
One groundwater sample was collected from MW-1. The sampling protocol is as follows-
1 Down-well equipment (water-level meter) was decontaminated by scrubbing in a
tnsodium-phosphate wash followed by a distilled water rinse, prior to use
2 The depth-to-water was measured using a conductivity-based water-level meter
3 The volume of water standing in the well was calculated by subtracting the depth-to-
water measurement from the depth of the well and multiplying by the appropriate
conversion factor (3 14*radws2, 0 16 for 2-inch wells).
4 The water sample was collected after purging 20 well volumes (during the well
development) using a clean disposable bailer
5. Physical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, and temperature) were monitored for
stability during purging The physical parameter measurements are recorded on purge-
and-sample logs, along with the time and volume of water purged at each
measurement.
6 The sample was collected with a new disposable bailer and was contained in
appropriately prepared bottles provided by the analytical laboratory New bailer cord
also was used prior to use.
7 The sample was immediately labeled and placed in an iced sample container At the
end of the day, the samples were delivered to the analytical laboratory under chain-of-
custody control.
FR10-26(1993) Page A-3 24-220172-A00
Copynght 1993 Klemfelder, Inc
