kn K L E I N F E L D E R
January 5, 1988
File: 24-2079--01
Mr. Keith Tallia ~
Oil Equipment Services
P.O. Box 950
San Andreas, CA 95249 ~'`1
SUBJECT: Soil Sample Analytical Results, Di Salvo Truck Lines
Dear Mr. Tallia:
Enclosed are the analytical results for the, soil sample'-collected -from Di
Salvo Truck Lines at - 100. Ventura, Street., Stockton, California. It is
Kleinfelder's understanding that one underground diesel- tank was excavated
and removed from the site. After consulting with Mr. Dan Moe of: the San.;
Joaquin County Local Health District, :John' Armstrong of Oil .EquIpmeiit.,
Services requested one soil sample be collected -from the bottom of the
open excavation below the ,filling end.-of the tank.' -
On December 11, 1987, 'a Kleinfeldergeolog"St collected one! soil sample at
a depth of approximately 21 feet.' from the native sozl Within r.lie.
excavation (see Plate 1) . -Soil sample SS-18308 . was a gray;clay. Qualitative 'field ,
screening using a field photoionization
detector (PID) at the 15 foot-depth' resulted in readings of over 1 , 700
parts per million by volume (ppmv) : With these iresults, Mr Moe advised
advancing the depth of the "excavation. Due to equipment 'limitations, the
maximum obtainable -depth was 21 feet, at. which depth Sample SS-18308 was' .'.
collected. At both the 15, and 21. foot depths, a hydrocarbon odor was
observed. It is ' Kleinfelder's 'understanding that following. the
acquisition of Sample-SS-18308, the tank excavation wa3 backfilied. ' -
The sample was delivered under chain-of-custody to .-Chemwest Analytical . .
Laboratories, Inc. ,_ in Sacramento, . and analyzed. -. for :total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) by' GC/FID 'and purgeable aromatic compounds (BTEX) 'by
EPA Method 8020. Sample SS-18308- yielded a` TPH concentration of 190mg/kg,
diesel and was below reporting limits..for gasoline. The BTEX.analysis was
below reporting limits foi`all cons'tituents. , The analytical results for
the two analyses are presented in Table ,l , t:aborat6ry-data sheets and a'
chain-of-custody form are included at the end of. this .report. .
Kleinfelder recommends a co
AY of this report be submitted to the, San
Joaquin County Local Health District for their review and approval.
KLEINFELDER 9795 Business ParkDrive, Suite C, 5acramtnto, CA 95827 '(916) 366-1701
,r
