SCHOOL GROUND WATER 6EANUP, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> In 1987, five monitoring wells were installed and found contaminated with gasoline. <br /> In June 1990 three additional monitoring wells were installed and found to be <br /> contaminated, Definition of the plume, which would be used to develop a plan for <br /> remediation of the site and, thereby, protect thes wells, has not been completed. The <br /> District's 16 September 1991 Project History repot shows over 100 domestic and <br /> municipal wells nearby with seven domestic w lis directly across West Von Sosten, <br /> one municipal well on the District's property and one domestic well about 1000 feet <br /> downgradient of the leak site (the scale on Figure 3 is incorrect.) Guidance and <br /> directives have been provided by the Sari Joaquin County Public Health Service and <br /> Regional Board for completing the site assessment, The District should proceed with <br /> Implementing them. It is incwnbent upon the District to complete the work, initiate <br /> remediation, and operate the remediation system(s) until the ground water and soil <br /> are cleaned up. <br /> You have requested that we meet with you on 9 October 1991 to discuss problems <br /> District is having; in complying with requirements to clean up the contaminated <br /> ground water beneath the District's property. Considering the above, we do not <br /> believe that a meeting would be productive at this time. Please be aware that the cost <br /> of the meeting (up to $800) would be borne by the District. <br /> The if September report and previous letters to the San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Service state that the District has had problems securing funding for the project. Has <br /> the District contacted the California Department of General Services, Office of Local <br /> Assistance to apply for deferred maintenance fu ds available for school districts? The <br /> contact is Mavis 'Barker at (916) 323-2406, <br /> Also, quarterly reports have been requested, but none have been submitted. Quarterly <br /> reports are to show progress made at the site and project work needed to develop a <br /> remediation system. Information needed to cory plete the quarterly reports and a <br /> Final Remediation Plan are found in the Tri-Re Tonal Recommendations and <br /> Appendix A - Reporting (enclosed).
