 L
29 March 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0125
report, dated 26 February 1996
26 SOIL STOCKPILE AND PURGE WATER SAMPLING
Stockpiled soil was sampled by representatives of AGE on 5 January 1996 Four samples were
collected from the stockpiled soil and from containerized purged water stored on-site TPH-g was
detected m stockpiled soil samples at concentrations up to 480 ppm (SP3) BTE&X were detected
in stockpiled soil samples at concentrations up to 13 ppm (xylene, SP2) No hydrocarbons were
detected in samples collected from the containerized purged water Results of the sampling was
detailed in the above-mentioned AGE report, dated 26 February 1996
3.0. PROCEDURES
3 1 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
On 05 March 1996, the depth to ground water in each well at the site was measured relative to the
casing top using a Solinst water level meter The relative ground water elevation in each well and
prevailing hydraulic gradient were determined from these data Ground water depth data is presented
in Table 1
After depth to water measurements were performed, a pre-cleaned bailer or submersible pump was
used to remove approximately 1 5 to 5 gallons of standing water from wells MW-2 and MW-6 to
stabilize temperature, pH and conductivity Stabilization of these parameters demonstrates proper
purging of the well Stabilization parameters were measured at one-gallon intervals using an ICM
Water Analyzer Purged water was stored on-site in DOT drums Ground water stabilization and field
data sheets are included in Appendix A
3 2GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
Os
March 1996, ground water samples were collected from morvtoring wells MW-2 and MW-6
Samples were retrieved from each of the wells using new disposable plastic bailers Each sample was
collected in 40-m1 EPA vials and transported in a chilled container under ice, under a chain-of-
custody to Alpha Analytical Laboratories, Inc (AAL) in Ukaih, California
Each sample was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and
volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes BTE&X) in accordance with EPA
methods 5030/8015m and 602, respectively A sample collected from MW-6 was analyzed for methyl
tert-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 602
I
