i <br /> . 26 February 1996 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0125 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> I3 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> On 19 October 1995, ground water samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-2, MW-5 and <br /> MW-6 Samples were retrieved from each of the wells using new disposable plastic bailers Each <br /> sample was collected in 40-m1 EPA vials and transported in a chilled container under chain-of-custody <br /> Ito Alpha Analytical Laboratories, Inc (AAL) in Ukaih, California <br /> Each sample was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and <br /> volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes BTE&X) in accordance with EPA <br /> methods 5030/8015m and 602, respectively <br /> 3 3 EXCAVATION OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL <br /> On 20 and 21 December 1995, approximately 370 cubic yards of hydrocarbon-impacted soil were <br /> excavated from the former UST area Soil was excavated using a backhoe, the backhoe and operator <br /> were provided by Bob Evans Trucking(BET)of Manteca, California Excavated soil was stockpiled <br /> on-site, north of the maintenance building Water was encountered in the excavation at a depth of <br /> approximately 8 feet below surface grade Excavation linuts are illustrated on Figure 2 <br /> A total of eleven soil samples were collected from the sidewalls and floor of the excavation All soil <br /> samples were collected from the backhoe bucket using a metric soil sampler loaded with two clean, <br /> 2-inch by 3-inch brass sleeves All samples were collected under the direction of Ms Margaret <br /> Lagono of the PHS-EHD <br />' After collection, both ends of leading sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with <br /> tape Samples were placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to Castle <br /> Analytical Laboratory(CAL) in Atwater, California Samples were analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X <br /> in accordance with EPA methods 80151n and 8020, respectively <br /> 3 4 EXCAVATION BACKFILL <br /> On 21 and 22 December 1995, approximate] 128,tons of pea gravel and crushed rock were placed <br /> on the bottom of the excavation The pea gra el and crushed rock was used to fill the excavation <br /> above the free standing water in the excavation The excavation was then backfilled using clean fill <br /> sand Backfilling and compaction was performed using a loader The loader and operator were <br /> Isupplied by Bob Evans Tucking, Inc (BET) of Manteca, California Backfill transportation receipts <br /> are included in Appendix B <br />
