STATE PF CALIFORNIA -Environmental Protec Agency PETE WILSON, Governor
`,CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098
PHONE: (916) 255-3000
FAX:(916) 255-3015
29 December 1993
Mr. Nick Nickerson _
Unocal Corporate Environmental Remediation & Technology ;
2000 Crow Canyon Road, Suite 450
San Ramon, CA 94583
REVIEW OF SOIL INVESTIGATION-REPORT; REQ0jTST FOR FURTHER --
ASSESSMENT
Thank you for submitting the report covering the results of the soil investigation at the feed
products facility on West Washington Street, in the Port of Stockton. The report contains
results from the two sampling events conducted by Sierra Pacific Groundwater Consultants
during 1993.
The lateral and vertical extent of nitrate, TKN, and various feed products has been defined in
four of the zones of contamination (the urea tank area, acid containment area, 10-34-0 tank
area, and south driveway area). However, the data indicates that contamination extends
within the office area and west tank farm area, and that the lateral and vertical extent of this
contamination has not yet been delineated.
Therefore, this letter serves as a request for a further assessment of the extent of soil
contamination at the remainder of the feed facility. We share your consultant's confidence in
the results received to date, and expect that the further assessment would be completed in a
similar manner. Please submit a short workplan covering the above by 31 January 1994.
Thank you for your cooperation in this investigation. If you have any questions, I can be
reached at,(916)-255-31-04. -
ti .
WENDY WYELS
Ag Regulatory Unit
cc: Mr. John Rapp, Sierra Pacific Groundwater Consultants, El Dorado Hills
Mr. Mike Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health, Stockton
Ms. Charlene Wall, Port of Stockton, Stockton
Mr. Dale Matthews, PM Ag Products, Stockton
Mr. Jack Holm, Cargill Molasses, Stockton
