Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
Subject: PM AG Products Soil Investigation,
April 4-13, 1993 Environmental Work
Sierra Pacific Project Number 10-92-033
Dear Mr. Infurna:
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. (Sierra-Pacific), under contract with Unocal
Corporation, recently completed four days of augering and soil sampling at Cargill's (formerly PM
AG Products and PureGro Company) Washington Street molasses facility at the Port of Stockton.
Much good subsurface information was obtained. However, the extent of nitrogen soil
concentrations will not be fully understood until analytical test results are received from the
laboratory. Test results are expected in about three weeks.
No Cargill property was damaged, and no worker injuries occurred, during the recent field
operation. Power augering and diamond saw boring in the tank farm and driveway areas was
complicated by buried tanks, underground utility structures, and dozens of subsurface liquid product
lines. The exclusion zones and caution tape was removed at 1630 hours on Tuesday, 13 April 1993.
Excess soil cuttings were removed from the driveways and containment areas. Two, sealed, 55-
gallon drums of non-hazardous soil cuttings, rinsate, and bentonite are staged for disposal near the
boiler at the east side of the tank farm area. All soil borings were filled with hydrated bentonite.
In addition, 5-inch diamond saw holes in the concrete pad and driveway areas were plugged by
cementing the original core plugs with Portland cement. Black plastic bags of non-hazardous trash
have been staged nearby.
(916)933-1468
P.O. Box 1805 Cameron Park, California 95682 (916)933-3197 FAX
