J
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc.
HYDROGEOLOGISTS& GEOLOGISTS
Y - Y
February 7, 1994 RECEIVED
F E 8 1 1 1994
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Ms. Catherine Whitworth PERMIT/SERVICES
P.O. Box 280
Davis, California 95617
Subject. 2130 West Washington Street Environmental Work
Ground Water Monitoring Program
Sierra-Pacific Project No. 10-92-033
Dear Ms. Whitworth:
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. (Sierra-Pacific), under contract with Unocal
Corporation (Unocal), has completed two phases of augering and soil sampling at the Cargill
Molasses Division (Cargill),. formerly PM AG Products and PureGro Company, 2130 West
Washington Street molasses facility at the Port of Stockton. Two existing monitoring wells at the
site were decommissioned on 30 November 1993, and four new monitoring wells were installed on
21-22 December 1993. Water levels were measured four times in December, and one sampling
event was completed. Initial test results indicate that nitrate concentrations are present in shallow
ground water.
Water level measurements from the four new monitoring wells at Washington Street indicate that
ground-water was flowing northwest on 27 December 1993. By contrast, water level data from
earlier investigations indicate that ground water tends to flow to the southeast in the west Port of
Stockton area. Recent water level measurements taken at your 2040 West Washington Street
property (California Farm Supply) are appear to be erratic. Insufficient data is available to explain
sporadic water level measurements, and Sierra-Pacific is investigating several possible factors.
Sierra-Pacific hereby requests permission to measure water levels and sample monitoring wells at
the California Farm Supply site for nitrogen compounds. We would not test for petroleum
hydrocarbon compounds or pesticides. We are trying to determine the nature ground water flow
in the Washington Street area, and whether feed product concentrations are being transported in
the ground water.
Sierra-Pacific must have a signed Right-of--Entry agreement to sample any of our monitoring wells.
An unsigned Right-of-Entry form (and a return envelop) is enclosed for your approval.
(916)933.1468
4911 Windplay Drive, Suite 4 El Dorado Hills, California 95762
(916)933-3197 FAX
