LIVE OAK GEO ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
400 407 W. Oak St., Lodi, CA 95240 ❖ (209)369-0375 ❖ logelodi.com
May 20, 2020
Project Number: 20-15
Aaron Gooderham, REHS
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
1868 E. Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
Regarding: Addendum to Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study
Ackerman Property
5861 W. Kile Rd., Lodi, CA
Mr. Gooderham:
You contacted our office yesterday requesting additional information about an old dairy located
at 5760 West Kile Road, approximately 300 feet southeast of the above Site.
Live Oak contacted Mark Ackerman and his mother, Eleanor Ackerman, regarding the dairy.
They recall that the dairy was closed down prior to 2002 because the pond was found to have
been improperly lined. They indicated that no animals are at that property now (personal
communication, May 19, 2020).
Additionally, Live Oak reviewed aerial photographs available from Google Earth. Based on
these photographs, it appears that the dairy was in operation in 1993. By 2002, the pond was
no longer full, which implies closure or substantially reduced use. The last time any animals are
evident is in April 2010. By 2011, a large building has been removed, and the entire pond area
has been leveled.
Although the dairy property is located relatively close to the project Site, the old pond was at the
far eastern end of the dairy, approximately 1,500 feet from the Site. The Site is beyond the
mapped area in the most recent ground water maps available (spring and fall 2016, as
discussed in the original report); however, the general ground-water flow trend in the area to the
east of the Site is to the northeast. Without ground-water elevation data from three wells
surrounding the Site, we cannot determine the site-specific ground-water flow direction.
As discussed in the original report, nitrate was detected in the water sample from the domestic
well on the Site at a concentration of 2.6 mg/L-N. This low level indicates the well likely has not
been impacted by nitrate contamination from the dairy. According to the permits reviewed, the
well was drilled in 1997 to a depth of 170 feet, with a grout seal at 100 feet.
The dairy is not listed on the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department's lists of
contaminated sites (August 2019), nor is it listed on the GeoTracker or Envirostor databases. If
the Environmental Health Department has additional information about this facility, we ask that
you provide it to our office. Without documents and sampling data from the facility, no specific
conclusions can be drawn about its impact on the surrounding area.
Environmental s Engineering Geology ❖ Geophysics
