Thomas Berg
AmMoMiIIHRA
November 27,2007
Page#2
Scope of Review
The cited document and the accompanying CD were reviewed for scientific and
technical contents only. Any grammatical or typographic errors w ich did not affect the
interpretation of data and information were not noted. Any previous documents relating
to this site were not consulted.
Comments
The following Sections were reviewed for "critical flows" that could compromise
the process of risk assessment: Section 1.0 Introduction; Section 2.0 Site Description
and Background; Section 3.0 Data Evaluation and Selection of Chemicals of Potential
Concern; Section 4.0 Exposure Assessment; and Section 5.0 Toxicity Assessment.
These Sections were found to contain adequate information and data to characterize
risk. Information and relevant data comprised OU1 and OU2 for soil, soil gas and
groundwater matrices under residential, commercial/industrial, and construction worker
scenarios. Additionally, the following Tables were examined for verall accuracy and
found to contain no major flows: Tables F-1.1 to F-1.6 Statistical Summaries for
COPCs in Soil, Soil Gas and Groundwater in OU1 and OU2; Tables F-2.1 and F-2.2
Comparison of Background Samples for OU1 and OU2; Table F-3 Physicochemical
Constants for COPCs; Tables 4-1 to 4-3 Exposure Parameters for Construction Worker,
Residential, and Commercial/Industrial Worker scenarios; Tables F-5.1 and F-5.2
Chronic Non-Carcinogenic and Carcinogenic Toxicity Criteria for COPCs; and Table F-6
Toxicity Equivalency Factors for Dioxins. Figures F-1 Sampling Locations OU1, F-2
Sampling Locations OU2, and F-3 Conceptual Site Model were Z dequately presented.
HERD noted that the Attachments F-1 to F-9 were not inc uded in the hard copy
of the report but were included as part of the full document in th compact disc (CD)
accompanying the hard copy. Following Attachments were printed and reviewed by
HERD: F-1 Summary of Meeting held on January 24, 2007; F-2 Data Validation
Summary; F-3 to F-6 Summaries of Data Validation, Identification of COPC and
statistics, and UCL estimates using ProUCL; F-7 Estimation of Air Concentration of
Volatiles and Particulate Matter; F-8 Risk Assessment Calculations; and F-9 Output
from the California Natural Diversity Data Base. Where and when applicable
calculations, as presented in the Attachments, were checked for accuracy of input
parameters and out put of results. Information and Data were adequately presented.
Section 6.0 Risk Characterization: For OU1 and under construction worker
scenario, cumulative (soil and soil gas) hazard index was below 1 (Table F-7.1a), and
cumulative life time excess cancer risk was determined to be 1. E-06.
