AOC Work Plans
downgradient of the north burn pit are necessary to confirm the previous d tections of these
compounds. Finally, there are no indications that confirmation sampling native soil was
performed after removal of the soil stockpiles. Sampling of native soil fro n the former stockpile
areas will also be performed.
Field Investigation Approach
Confirmation soil sampling will be performed in the burn pits as follows. For each existing pit
excavation, one sample will be collected from each sidewall and two sarar tea will be from the
excavation floor at depths of approximately six inches below the existing E urface features. Side
wall samples will be collected from the mid point of each side wall, approximately half way up
from the bottom. The two bottom samples will be collected approximate) one-third distance from
the center of the excavation. All samples will be collected with a drive sampler and 6-inch
diameter stainless steel tubes. The sides of the tubes will be immediately covered with Teflon discs
and caps. Soil samples will be analyzed for VOCs, SVOCs,Dioxins and Furans,PCBs,TPHd,
TPHmo, and metals.
To characterize the presence of formaldehyde and dissolved lead in group water in the vicinity of
the bum pits, three soil borings will be advanced to groundwater(anticipa ed to be between 20 and
30 feet bgs)in a radiating pattern downgradient of the north bum pit(Pla 4.3). The borings will
be advanced using a direct-push drill rig equipped with 1-7/8-inch-diameter,hollow, drive rod.
Upon reaching the target depth in each boring,a grab groundwater sample will be collected using a
disposable Teflon bailer or stainless steel bailer and decanted into the appi opriate sample
containers, which will be provided by the analytical laboratory. Upon con clusion of the boring
program, all boreholes will be backfilled to the surface with grout.
Draft
KB61125 workplan-ESC MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. 35
September 28,2005
