AOC Work Plans
4.4 Former Steam Cleaning and Western Ditch Areas
Site Summary
The two former steam cleaning areas and the western ditch have an interre ated environmental
history. Both former steam cleaning areas discharged water to the westerr ditch area(Plates 4.4a
and 4.4b). The primary area,Former Steam Cleaning Area—South(SCA )was located north of
the former maintenance building, immediately west of the water tower. T a secondary area or
Steam Cleaning Area—North(SCA2)was located north and west of the F nger joints building. A
series of three sumps(discussed previously in the Section 4.1.2 as USTs 1 820006)along a drain
line connected SCAI operations to the western drainage ditch; the drain Iii a may have also
received waste water from the SCA2 operation. Also, surface runoff may ,lave drained from the
SCA2 area directly to the western drainage ditch. According to Mr. Glenr Gallup of AMMC,the
steam cleaning operations normally performed at SCAT were moved to the SCA2 area following
cessation of operations at SCAT.
Previous Investigations
Steam Cleanine Area—South (SCAT)
Kleinfelder(Kleinfelder, 1991)reported that SCAI was assessed by other through a soil sampling
program and that elevated hydrocarbon compound concentrations were no detected during the
assessment. The 1992 Kleinfelder report did not contain details of the invi stigation. h1 December
2000,AGE collected four soil samples at depths between 6 inches and 2.0 feet bgs in the SCAT
area to assess the presence of hydrocarbons and selected metals. With the exception of lead and
zinc, all hydrocarbons and the remaining metals were reportedly below tht it respective residential
PRGs and within the background levels. Lead and zinc were detected abo a the California
Draft
KB61125 workplan-ESC MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. 38
September 28,2005
