AOC Work Plans
1.
4.8 Volatile Organic Compounds/Formaldehyde
v
Site Summary
There is no evidence to suggest there have been releases of VOCs to the si bsurface. However,
because the intended reuse of the property is for residential use,the potent al buyers of the Site
have requested a soil gas survey be conducted in the north portion of the S to to assess the
presence,if any,of VOCs in soil gas. Due to the location of the rural cern teries in the regional
upgradient direction from the Site, there is also a concern for the volatiliza ion of formaldehyde
from a possible release from the cemeteries.
Data Gaps
No soil gas information has previously been collected for the Site. Soil ga 5 data will be collected
to assess the presence/absence of VOCs and formaldehyde. This data will be used during the
completion of a risk assessment for the Site.
Field Investigation Approach
Using a direct-push drill rig, 13 soil gas sampling probes will be installed t the Site at locations
presented on Plate 4.8. The ten locations in the north portion of the Site will be installed in a one-
acre grid system to meet the DTSC coverage criteria. Depth-discrete soil Yas samples will be
collected at each probe location at depths of approximately 5 and 15 feet t gs. All samples will be
analyzed for VOCs using modified EPA Method TO-15. In addition, five locations along the
western property boundary(immediately downgradient of the rural cemet 'es)will also be
analyzed for formaldehyde using modified EPA Method TO-11.
Draft
KB61125 workplan-ESC MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. 52
September 28,2005
