29 January 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' building, north of the Millwork building, south of the Priming building, N rest of the Saw Filing room
and north of the 44x120 (feet) Storage Building.
2.4.1. Ray Bond Building
' Surface soil samples were collected and analyzed by Meinfelder in the pen space east of the Ray
Bond building. Formaldehyde was detected in two soil samples at concentrations of 45 mg/kg and
47 mg/kg. Phenols were detected at 0.68 mg/kg. Kleinfelder(1992), suinniarizing the findings, did
not consider these concentrations to be high enough to warrant additional investigation. A copy of
the original report of findings was not available to AGE.
2.4.2. Millwork Building
Formaldehyde was detected iii two surface soil samples collected and analyzed by Kleinfelder in this
area at concentrations of 36 mg/kg and 45 mg/kg. Phenols were de' cted in one sample at a
concentration of 0.92 mg/kg. lCeinfelder (1992), summarizing the findix find' gs, did not consider these
concentrations to be high enough to warrant additional investigation. A opy of the original report
of findings was not available to AGE.
2.4.3. Priming Building
'I Kleinfelder's fork Plan-Phase II Investigation, American Moulding and Millwork, Stockton,
California, dated 15 June 1987, recommended collection and sampling of surface soil samples from
' this area;however, review of documents provided to AGE did not contain information regarding any
assessment investigation of the open area south of the Priming building;N vhich AGE believes refers
to the Priming Department at the south end of the former Cover Plant budding (AFPC, 1983). The
' area was also utilized for the former UST No. 18820007 for primer waste water.
2.4.4. Saw Filing Room
' HIeinfelder(1992)reported that prior to sharpening saw blades, pitch an lubricants were removed
using a lye solution(sodium hydroxide) in the saw filing room located on e north end of the Finger
Joints/Box Factory Building(Figure 3). The lye solution was collected during the cleaning operation,
' but rinse water was discharged onto surface soil north of the saw filing room. The sod north of the
saw filing room drained into a culvert which was probably the western d tch. Kleinfelder collected
two shallow soil samples between the discharge point and the culvert. Fotal hydrocarbons were
' detected at a concentration of 7,900 mg/kg in one sample and were not detected in the second
Advanced GwEnv onntentai,Inc.
