11 September 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' Plant, one east of the former Finger Joints/Box Factory Building, one south of the former Nurse's
Station, and one west ofthe former Maintenance Building near the former 10,000-gallon diesel UST.
The inactive septic tanks east of the Cover Plant and Finger JointsBoFactory Buildings are still
in place, the inactive tank south of the former Nurse's Station is caved)in and partially filled with
' debris. The inactive tank west of the former Maintenance Building is beEeved to have been removed
concurrently with removal of the building and excavation of diesel-impacted soil. The locations of
' the septic tanks are shown on Figure 3.
' 3.3.1. Finger Joints Building Septic Leach Field- Inactive
D&M, in their Phase HInvestigation, American Molding(sic) and Mil work, Stockton, California
' dated 25 February 1987, identified the septic tank northeast of the Fin er Joints building as being
a possible receptor of hazardous materials and proposed sampling soil d groundwater for analysis
for total phenols, formaldehyde, total hydrocarbons, lead, zinc and chro ium.Apparently the work
' was scheduled for 05 May 1987. Kleinfelder proposed in their June 1987 work plan to sample the
leach field associated with the septic tank for the same analytes except substituting PCP/TCP
analysis for total phenols. AGE has no copies of reports or any other direct references to the results
' of either sampling plan.
During the December 2000 site assessment activities, AGE collected soil and grab ground water
' samples from the septic leach field east of the Finger Joint Building/Box Factory(Figure 3, sample
WLB1). Soil and ground water samples analyzed did not contained detectible concentrations of
t TRPH, formaldehyde, TCP, TCE and PCE. Soil samples contained chromium, lead and zinc at
concentrations considered to be background. The ground water sample contained elevated
concentrations of metals. The sample was not filtered prior to analysis, so the metals results include
' total metals from entrained mineral grains and are not representative of dissolved metals
concentrations.AGE believes the area to be adequately assessed and proposes no boring in the area.
Table 2 shows the analytical results for the December 2000 assessment.A report of procedures and
findings for the December 2000 investigation is in preparation.
' 3.3.2. Millwork Building Septic Leach Field- Active
Kleinfelder sampled soil in the leach field of the septic system west of the Millwork Building in
' 1987(Kleinfelder, 1992). Kleinfelder reported that the leach field may have received paint or urea
formaldehyde glue rinse water and that the materials were not discharged to the system after 1986.
The metals lead, zinc and chromium were reported to be within background concentrations, but
' formaldehyde was detected at concentrations of 26 mg/kg and 43 mg/kg. Kleinfelder believed the
formaldehyde results to be false positives. AGE does not have a copy¢f the assessment report.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
1
