• • October 14 , 1987 MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA OFFSITE SURFACE SOIL SAMPLING Results of the surface soil samples taken near the Marley facility by State officials indicate concentrations of arsenic, copper, and chromium exceeding background levels. To define the lateral and vertical extent of areas contaminated by woodtreaimeiit chemicals, additional offsite soil sampling is recommended. Location maps are attached as Figures 1 and 2 which show the proposed sampling locations. The samples taken from each location should be divided by depth. The samples should be taken from the surface and from 0.25, 0.50, 1 and 2 feet below land surface. The sampling locations are described as follows: I. In vicinity of North Yard (refer to Figure 1) Location N-1: On abandoned Farm Street right-of-way, approximately 5 feet north of north fenceline and abeam west edge of Storm Drainage Pond. Location N-2: On abandoned Farm Street right-of-way, approximately 20 feet north of north fenceline and abeam midpoint of Storm Drainage Pond. Location N-3: On abandoned Farm Street right-of-way, approximately 5 feet north of north fenceline and abeam midpoint of Storm Drainage Pond. Location N-4: On abandoned Farm Street right-of-way approximately 5 feet north of north fenceline and abeam east edge of Storm Drainage Pond. Note: The following sample locations N-5 through N-11 may have been affected by recent filling operations. Any identifiable recent fill materials should be removed before sampling and replaced after sampling. Location N-5: On adjacent commercial property, approximately 5 feet east of east fenceline and abeam north edge of wood treating area. Location N-6: On adjacent commercial property, approximately 5 feet east of east fenceline and abeam middle of wood treating area.
