T w
•STAT EAOF CALIFORNIA GEORGE OEUKM EJIA N, Governor
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD—
0—
CENTRAL
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 ROUTIER ROAD, SUITE Ag
SACRAMENTO, CA 95827-3098
28 November 1990
Mr. David Bates
Marley Cooling Tower Company
5800 Foxridge Drive
Mission, Kansas 66201
MINUTES OF THE 14 NOVEMBER 1990 MEETING, MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY, SAN
JOAQUIN COUNTY
Enclosed for your information are the minutes from the 14 November 1990 meeting
which was held with your representatives, the Department of Health Services and
the Regional Board. The meeting was held to discuss ground water extraction
modeling, scheduling, modification of the National Pollution Elimination
Discharge System (NPDES) permit and the content of the quarterly monitoring
report submittals.
Based on the preliminary results of the ground water extraction modeling, it
appears that the final extraction system will capture the majority of the
chromium contaminant plume during the worst case scenario (July 1990 drought flow
conditions) and will capture all of the plume during periods of historical ground
water flow conditions. We are pleased with these initial conservative modeling
results and look forward to the submittal of the ground water extraction modeling
report due in December 1990.
The NPDES permit is being modified to incorporate additional toxicity testing for
the effluent using Ceriodaohnia as a test species on a monthly basis, but will
reduce the required frequency of toxicity testing using fathead minnows. The
frequency of all toxicity testing will probably be reduced once the final
expansion of the treatment system is in-place and the test results show that the
effluent does not cause instream toxicity. We plan to send out the Tentative
Waste Discharge Requirements by 30 November 1990.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916)361-5670.
CAMILLA WILLIAMS
Engineering Geologist
CKW:cw
Enclosure
