California Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region
3443 Rmfier Rwd, Sacmmemo CA 95827-3098
PUBLIC HEARING
Notice of Application for Renewed Waste Discharge Requirements
(National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit)
for
MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The Marley Cooling Tower Company has requested that their present NPDES permit, which
allows them to treat and discharge ground and stormwater, be revised to increase flows.
Stormwater and ground water are contaminated with wood treatment chemicals which are
used on-site and require treatment prior to discharge to surface waters. The increase in
discharge to 0.72 mgd will continue to the Stockton Diverting Canal, which flows into the
Calaveras River and will include approximately 5% reinjection into shallow soils on-site.
The existing discharge is governed by Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 91-035
(NPDES No. CA0081787) and includes limits for arsenic, chromium and copper.
A public meeting concerning this matter will be held:
DATE: 22 October 1993
TIME: 9:00 a.m.
PLACE: State Capitol
Room 447
11th between L and N Streets
Persons wishing to comment on or object to the proposed requirements are invited to submit
same in writing to the Regional Board no later than 8 October 1993. All comments or
objections received by this date will be considered in the draft waste discharge requirements.
A public hearing may be held upon the request of any interested person. After considering
comments or objections, the Board may issue waste discharge requirements.
Anyone having questions on these requirements should contact Cori Condon at (916)
255-3047. The proposed requirements and related documents may be inspected and copied at
the Regional Board's office, weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Please bring the above matter to the attention of anyone you know who would be interested
in this matter.
PAUL E. JEPPER ON,\-Stip6rvising Engineer
CLC:dlk\17 September 1993
