That email described he location and preliminary sealing of
groundwater monitoring well DMW-3 located at the For er American Forest Products Facility,
2801 West Lane, Stockton, California. The wellhead of MW-3 had been inadvertently
destroyed during site grading activities associated with s to development. Further grading
activities had buried the well.
Preliminary Sealing—During the week of October 15, 2007, URS staked the well location based
on GPS measurements, and exposed it with the assistance of the site owner's grading
subcontractor(See Photo 1 in attached Photographic Log). After exposing the well, URS
removed the cement seal from about a foot of the four-inch casing. The casing was then cut off
square, leaving about six-inches protruding above the cement. A section of four-inch schedule 40
PVC pipe was then placed on the existing casing, with a tight fit and about four inches of overlap
(Photo 2).No glue was used. The joint was then scaled with concrete, and an expanding gasket
plug placed in the top of the casing(Photo 3). The top o the casing extended about one to 1-1/2
feet above the general ground surface, thus the repaired oint is approximately 2-1/2 to 3 feet bgs.
Backfill and Well Completion—On October 30, 2007,the repair was completed by placing a
cardboard construction tube(Sonotube)around the well casing to act as a form for concrete
which would complete the seal to the ground surface(Photo 4). The pit which had been excavated
in locating the well was backfilled and compacted in lift (Photo 5). Finally,a surface vault was
set in concrete slightly above ground surface to allow for drainage and the casing sealed with an
expanding gasket plug.
URS Corporation
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive,Suite 300 ,
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2200
Fax:916.679.2900
