The direct push rods and bailer will be decontaminated between each sample.
Sample analysis will be conducted using an onsite mobile laboratory provided by Transglobal
Environmental Geochemistry (TEG) of Rancho Cordova, California. Groundwater samples will be
transferred from the stainless steel bailer directly into the appropriate sample containers provided by the
laboratory. All samples will be analyzed for volatile organic compounds(VOCs)by EPA Method 8260B.
1
x 4.4 BACKFILLING OF BORINGS
The direct push borings will be backfilled by filling with a grout seal from the bottom of the borehole to
the ground surface. The grout seal will consist of a mixture of Portland Type I or 1I cement, sand, and
clean, potable water. A grout injection pump will be used to install the grout seal through a tremie pipe.
The end of the tremie pipe will remain submerged in the grout mixture at all times during placement and
the grout mixture will be installed in one continuous operation. The grouting procedure will consist of
pushing a hollow cone penetrometer test (CPT) rod or small-diameter polyvinyl chloride. (PVC) casing
1.. with a knock-out plug back down the boring to the test boring depth. Grout will then be pumped under
pressure as the tremie pipe is pulled from the boring. Grout inspection will be scheduled 24 hours in
advance with Mr. Jeffrey Wong of the SJC-EHD(209-464-0138).
4.5 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All equipment that comes into contact with potentially contaminated soil or water will be decontaminated.
Disposable equipment intended for one-time use will not be decontaminated, but will be packaged for
appropriate disposal. Decontamination will occur prior to and after each use of a piece of equipment. All
down-hole sampling devices used, including direct-push CPT rods, HydroPunch® samplers, and stainless
steel bailers, will be steam-cleaned or decontaminated in accordance with EPA Region 9 reconunended
procedures, as follows:
1. Non-phosphate detergent and tap water washing,using a brush if necessary;
2. Tap water rinse;
w
3. De-ionized or purified water rinse.
Direct-push equipment will be decontaminated by the subcontractor. Decontamination water will be
discharged to an onsite portable water tank. Due to the use of direct push, no other investigation-derived
wastes are expected.
1..
4
KAWprocess122736\American Foresi\Work Plan 20051Work Plan_2005_revol.doc
