r
Work Plan— 1,2-DCA Investigation
Former American Forest Products Site,Stockton,California April 2,2002
URS Corporation Americas Page 2
f
i
— At a depth of 40 feet below ground surface(bgs); and
— At a depth of 55 feet bgs;
• Analyze the water samples for volatile organic compounds(VOCs)including 1,2-DCA using EPA
Method 82608; and
• Prepare an Addendum Report to the Closure Request Report.
_ m
2.0 SAMPLING METHODS AND PROCEDURES
Presented in this section are the tasks associated with collection of groundwater samples.
S .
21 HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Work at the site will be conducted using the existing site-specific Health and Safety Plan (HSP) that was
developed for previous drilling activities.
2.2 PERMITS PROCUREMENT AND UTILITIES CLEARANCE j
If required,San Joaquin County well installation permits will be obtained for the proposed sampling locations.
However, because the sampling locations are not permanent wells, permits do not appear to be required. Site
access will be coordinated with current site operator. The sampling locations will be marked, and
4 Underground Service Alert(USA) will be contacted to obtain clearance of underground utilities prior to the
advancement of the borings. In addition, historic site maps will be utilized to locate and mark underground
utilities in the investigation area.
2.3 SAMPLING LOCATIONS
4
The objective of the proposed investigation is to delineate 1,2-DCA concentrations in groundwater
downgradient of existing monitoring wells. The groundwater flow has varied approximately 180 degrees
during the previous 14 years, based on data presented in Figure 3. The groundwater gradient is currently
oriented toward the north-northeast, which has been the prevalent flow direction since 1998. The existing
monitoring well network provides adequate coveragein in the directions west and south..of the wells where
1,2-DCA has been detected(DMW-2,DMW-5 and DMW-6). Therefore, sampling locations proposed for
4 this investigation will be located in the areas north and east of these three wells, as indicated in Figure 3.
K:%40191AFP1DCA_WORKPLAN.DOC
u ,
