Backus, Garrett [EHD]
From: Pete Earnest <pearnest@satcoinc.net>
Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2020 4:46 PM
To: Backus, Garrett
Cc: Brent Shonka; Rogerio Noce; Ricky Carlson; Carey Macconnell; Luke Allen
Subject: SATCO HW & HM Inspection June 16, 2020 Follow-up
Attachments: Concentrated Acid in Tote 44.84 Gal.jpg; Dirt & Gravel Acid Contaminated jpg; PPE-
Plastic-Debris Acid Contaminated jpg
CAUTION:This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the
sender and know the content is safe.
Dear Gary,
We have implemented recording the pH of our rail/truck sumps located at the respective loading stations. This pH
record is of the wash-down water stream prior to transfer into the treatment tank. We plan on doing this twice a day
and maintain a log. Is this an acceptable practice? What best practices do you see, can you share?
We also want to understand the steps for applying for a Hazardous Waste Treatment permit, if required. Can you
provide more information?
We have put the following immediate actions in place and want to keep you updated:
o Monitoring the pH of our rail/truck sumps- Already started, No pH recording below 2
o Drum/container labels have been corrected (Please see pictures attached.). We have also spoken with
all parties involved to ensure everyone understands the procedure.
o We have been working with a consulting firm for our Annual updates; however, moving this up in our
calendar to correct the site map as per the missing items indicated in the inspection report. This is
currently in progress.
o We are modifying the Stockton EAP and training to ensure CUPA will be notified for any future incidents
such as these. SATCO would like to have further discussion with the County to make sure we have the
proper understanding of your reporting requirements. We would like to do this as soon as possible.
Gary—more to come. We are laser focused and appreciate insight and assistance in any and all areas to ensure SATCO
is a benchmark facility for you and the county!
B.Rgrds,
Aubrey E.
