8.2 PreliminAry Remedial Action- Workl?lan
8.2.1 Tasks
The tasks included in the preferred remedial action Alternative 7 include;
• Removing existing asphalt paving;
• Demolishing the maintenance shop;
' • Excavating clean overburden;
' • Excavating the soil i,10,000 ppm TPH;
• Construct Landfarm Pad
• Landfarming soil on-site;
• Excavating clean backfill on-site;
• Subgrading and repaving previously paved areas; and
• Filling the backfill excavation with cleaned soil.
The existing asphalt paving will be removed with heaving equipment (i.e.,
backhoe, front-end locker, and dump truck), and disposed of off--site. The
amount of paving to be removed is only enough to expose the area of excavation
including sloping walls. The maintenance shop will be removed, and the
concrete foundation will be fractured, and disposed of off-site.
Excavation of soils at the former AFPC site will be performed with
standard construction equipment. Approximately 4000 cu. yds. of
uncontaminated soil overburden will be removed with A backhoe and bulldozer
and segregated for later replacement. This will be followed by the excavation
of approximately 1100 cu. yds. of contaminated soil using a backhoe. A loader
will thea either load the material into trucks or transport the material
directly to the designated landfarming area, depending on the distance to the
available on-site landfarm location. Soil samples will be collected from the
base of the excavation to confirm that the required cleanup level has been
achieved.
8-2
GGA/0209b/276a
