' DATA VALIDATION MEMO
DAMES & MOORE 8801 Folsom Boulevard,#200
Sacramento,CA 95826
A DAMES a GROUP COMPANY -- Telephone-(916)387-8800
Fax-(916)387-0802
TO: Jack Kemp INFO:
FROM: Sacramento QA/QC Group FILE: 15884-017-044
' DATE: January 21 1999 SITE: American Forest Products
SUBJECT: Summary of Data Validation for Quanterra Reports 303221 and 303349
' A check for data completeness (Completeness Check) was performed by the Sacramento QA/QC
Group on Quanterra Reports 303221 and 303349 for the American Forest Products Project This
report contains analytical data for seven samples DMW-7.130', DMW-7.2 351, DMW-6.1 251,
' DMW6.2 401, MW-0, DMW-6, and DMW-7 Samples MW-0/DMW-7 represent field
duplicates. These samples were collected between December 14 and 21, 1998 and submitted to
the laboratory for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Diesel (EPA 8015M) The
laboratory report was received by the Sacramento QA/QC group on January 21, 1999
The data were reviewed in accordance with analytical methods outlined in EPA SW-846 The
data were evaluated based on the following parameters
✓ Data Completeness
✓ Holding Tunes
✓ Blanks
✓ Surrogates
' ✓ Laboratory Control Samples
✓ Matrix Spike/Matnx Spike Duplicates
✓ Field Duplicates
✓ Compound Identification and Quantification
The following presents an overview of the Completeness Check
• All analyses were performed as per the chain-of-custody records
' • All samples were initially analyzed within the method-specified holding tunes However,
sample DMW-6.2 40' was reextracted 14 days outside of holding times due to a low
surrogate recovery Consequently, the detection limit for total petroleum hydrocarbons in
this sample should be considered estimated
• No contaminants were detected in any of the associated method blanks.
' + The surrogate was diluted out in sample DMW-6.1 25' A low surrogate recovery was
reported for the initial analyses of sample DMW-6.2 40' The reextraction of this sample
yielded acceptable surrogate recoveries Data from the primary analysis is considered
valid without qualification No other surrogate recoveries fell outside acceptance criteria
' A lsa ,08 611
