16 ANNUAL REPORT
1996 GROUNDWATER MONITORING
FORMER AMERICAN FOREST PRODUCTS COMPANY FACILITY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
APPENDIX A
GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROTOCOL
' A 1 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Groundwater samples were collected in accordance with pertinent applicable sampling
protocols, details of which are presented below
A 1 1 Static Water Ley!21 Measurement
During groundwater elevation monitoring and before sampling, the static water level was
measured in each monitoring well using an electric water level indicator Measurements were
made, recorded, and repeated until at least two consecutive depth readings were within 0 01 feet
Water level data were recorded to the nearest 0 01 foot from a reference point marked on the top of
the PVC casing All reference points were surveyed by a licensed surveyor Before and after each
use, the measurement device was thoroughly rinsed with deionized water
A 1 2 Well Evacuation
pump Purging of the well was performed in order to obtain samples which represent groundwater
in the formation, rather than water standing in the well casing Monitoring wells were purged until
(1) a minimum of three casing volumes were removed from the well, and
' (2) the field-measured temperature, pH, and specific conductivity were stabilized
As used here, the term "casing volume" means the volume of water being stored Inside the
well casing at the time the well is visited for purging and sampling One casing volume (CV) Is
calculated using
R\SAC1044MISC19610 04A WPD A-1
