URS <br /> March 3, 2005 <br /> San Joaquin Public Health Service <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> ` ATTN Mr Jeffrey Wong <br /> 304 E Weber Avenue, third Floor <br /> Stockton, California 95202 <br /> RE: THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTER 2004 GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT <br /> Former American Forest Products Facility <br /> Stockton, California <br /> URS Protect No. 17322736 <br /> Dear Mr Wong <br /> On behalf of Mr William Bergvall, consultant for American Forest Products Company LP, URS <br /> Corporation Americas (URS) is submitting this letter report that includes results of third and fourth <br /> quarter groundwater monitoring conducted in September and December 2004 at the Former American <br /> Forest Products Facility, Stockton, California (Figures I and 2) Groundwater monitoring was conducted, <br /> and this report produced, following the requirements presented in a letter from Mr Jeffrey Wong of the <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Service (PHS/F,HD) dated April 16,2003 <br /> With this report, four quarteis of groundwater monitoring and reporting have been completed <br /> incorporating monitoring wells DMW-S and L°MW-9 These monitoring wells were installcd to assess the <br /> vertical and lateral extent, concentration, and changes in concentration with time of 1,2-dichloroethane <br /> (1,2-DCA) in groundwater Assessment of this site constituent has been required by the regulatory <br /> agene,ws prior to site closure <br /> The data presented in this report shows low concentrations, limited extent, and a stable to declining trend <br /> in concentrations of 1,2-DCA On this basis this report includes a request that closure procedures be <br /> initiated for this site <br /> For the third quarter 2004 groundwater monitoring event water levels were measured and groundwater <br /> samples were collected from site monitoring wells DMW-1 through DMW-5, and DMW-7 through <br /> DMW-9 on September 30, 2003 Monitoring well DMW-6 could not be sampled in September due to <br /> lack of sufficient recovery For the fourth quarter 2004 groundwater monitoring event water levels were <br /> measured on December 22, 2004 and groundwater samples were collected from site monitoring wells <br /> DMW-1 through DMW-9 on December 23, 2004 Well construction details for all of the wells are <br /> included in Table 1 Field records and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix A A Data <br /> Validation Summaries and analytical laboratory reports are included in Appendix B <br /> FIELD METHODS <br /> Static water levels (Table 2) were measured prior to initiating sampling activities using an electric water <br /> level sounder <br /> Prior to sampling, the wells were purged to ensure representativeness of the water samples A 2-inch- <br /> diameter Grundfos submersible pump was used for purging all of the wells with the exception of DMW- <br /> 6, WlikkawaMpurged using a bailer Purge rates ranged from I to 4 gpm Field parameters (temperature, <br /> Crown Corporate Center <br /> 2870 Gateway Oaks Drive Suite 300 <br /> Sacramento CA 95833 <br /> Tel 916 679 2000 <br /> Fax 916 679 2900 GVOBIAFP\Quarterly1Q40414Q04AFP_rev01 doc <br />
