PRIVILED & CONFIDENTIAL
(dominantly sand, silt and clay), Quaternary in age, which were derived from the
predominantly granitic mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Beneath the upper sedimentary
deposits lies a thick sequence of marine deposits of Mesozoic age. These units are further
underlain by a pre-Jurassic complex of igneous and metamorphic basement rock.'
In the vicinity of the subject property, depth to groundwater is approximately 60 feet bus,
[ ; with a flow direction to the northeast.
5.0 OBJECTIVE AND PROPOSED SCOPE OF SERVICE
The purpose of the well abandonment activities was to permanently destroy the four on-
site groundwater,monitoring wells. Building Analytics proposed to destroy two of the
monitoring wells by drilling the wells out, and to destroy the other two monitoring wells
by the pressure grouting method.
To accomplish this objective, Building Analytics performed the following tasks:
a. Modified the site-specific health and safety plan prior to initiating the field work;
t b. Submitted a groundwater monitoring well abandonment work plan and well
abandonment permits to the SJCEHD, which were subsequently approved. The
SJCEHD was notified prior to the destruction of the on-site monitoring wells;
[ ' c. Contacted the regional utility locating center prior to the destruction of the on-site
1 monitoring wells;
d. Destroyed Monitoring Well Nos. MW-1 and MW-3 by pressure grouting;
i
e. Destroyed Monitoring Well Nos. MW-2 and MW-4 by.drilling-out the monitoring
wells and then filling the borings with grout;
f. Provided all of the necessary equipment and materials to perform the required
services. This equipment included the drill-rig, pressure grouting equipment, and
asphalt cold patch or concrete; and
g. Re-paved the drilled areas with concrete finish.
6.0 FIELD ACTIVITIES
{
6.1 Groundwater Monitoring Well Destruction Permit
On July 26, 1999, Building Analytics submitted well destruction permits to the SJCEHD,
On July 30, 1999, the SJCEHD approved the permits to abandon the on-site groundwater
monitoring wells. The well abandonment activities were conducted under SJCEHD Well
1
Abandonment Permit No. 020388.
}
6.2 Utility Clearance
Building Analytics contact the regional utility notification center 48 hours in advance of
the field work.
1 Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.,Corrective Action Plan,March 1996.
5 199164—WFB.Stockton W61 Ahandonmcnt Rpt.
1
