1 <br /> 1 <br /> February 10, 1999 <br /> GRD 990010 <br /> 1 <br /> Mr Keith Tallia <br /> Oil Equipment Service <br /> P O Box 950 <br /> San Andreas, CA 95219 <br /> 1 <br /> RE UST Removals and Soil Sampling at Sunnyside Produce <br /> 8960 West Walnut Grove Road, Thornton, California <br /> Dear Mr Tallia <br /> Geotechnical Research and Development (GRD) has been retained to provide consulting services for <br /> an underground storage tank (UST) investigation and closure project conducted on the subject site <br /> This correspondence provides an account of activities, observations, analytical results and <br /> recommendations relative to this project <br /> The subject site (APN 001-150-29) is a truck stop and convenience store and motor fuel retailing <br /> facility in Thornton, California Formerly, three USTs were located west of the north end of the <br /> market building (Figure 1) The GRD identification number, volume, contents and approximate <br /> dimensions of the USTs are given below <br /> UST ID Number Contents Volume (gallons) Dimensions feet <br /> T1 Gasoline 10,000 8 diameter x 27 5 long <br /> T2 Gasoline 10,000 8 diameter x 27 5 long <br /> T3 Diesel 10,000 8 diameter x 27 5 long <br /> The USTs were installed in 1984 on previously undeveloped land Regular(leaded) gasoline has been <br /> stored in UST TI in the past Reportedly, no significant fuel spills are known in the UST area, and <br /> the USTs passed all annual tank integrity tests to date The dispensers were located directly over the <br /> USTs and connected to the USTs by subsurface product line piping The ground surface over the <br /> gasoline USTs was paved with concrete <br /> The subject USTs and associated product piping and dispensers were excavated and removed on 21 <br /> January 1999 by Oil Equipment Service (OES) of San Andreas, California The USTs were fitted <br /> with Steel Tank Institute Approval 3 (STI-3) cathodic protection and insulated risers The USTs <br /> . were examined after removal and all were found to be in very good condition with very slight <br /> corrosion, no tank wall failures were noted in the USTs <br />
