. SUNNYSIDE PRODUCE UST REMOVALS AND SOIL SAMPLING
Page 2
The brown, sandy backfill around the three USTs was generally excavated to approximately 10 feet
below ground surface (bgs) Gray-stained backfill was noted in the western half of the UST basin
Groundwater was present in the excavation at a depth of approximately nine feet bgs
At the direction of a representative from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services-
Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD), six soil samples (TI-W, T1-E, T2-W, T2-E, T3-W, and
T3-E) were collected at the water table from, or near, the side walls of the excavation (Figure 1)
One groundwater sample (GW-1) was collected from the UST basin Six additional soil samples
(SP1-1&2, SP2-1&2 and SP3-1&2)were collected from the soil stockpile located approximately 200
feet south of the excavation
The soil samples were collected using industry-standard sampling and sample handling procedures
The soil samples were collected in two-inch diameter brass sleeves and sealed with Teflon sheet and
plastic end caps The groundwater sample was collected directly into 40 milliliter glass vials The
samples were cooled and delivered, under chain-of-custody documentation, to Alpha Analytical, Inc
in Sparks, Nevada for chemical analysis
The soil samples (TI-W, T1-E, T2-W and T2-E) collected from the western and eastern ends of the
gasoline USTs were analyzed for the following
• total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) by EPA Method 8015 modified,
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m,p-xylenes, o-xylenes (BTEX), five oxygenates (methyl tertiary-
butyl ether [MTBE], tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA], di-isopropyl ether[DIPE], ethyl tertiary-butyl
ether [ETBE] and tertiary amyl methyl ether [TAME]) by EPA Method 8260, and
• totaI lead (Pb) by EPA Method 3050/ICP-MS
The soil samples (T3-W and T3-E) collected from the western and eastern end of the diesel UST
were analyzed for the following
• total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) by EPA Method 8015 modified, and
+ BTEX by EPA Method 8260
Each of the three pairs of soil samples (SPI-1&2, SP2-1&2 and SP3-1&2) collected from the soil
stockpile were composited to make three samples and analyzed for the following
• TPHd and TPHg by EPA Method 8015 modified,
• BTEX and the five oxygenates by EPA Method 8260, and
• total lead (Pb) by EPA Method 3050/ICP-MS
Soil and groundwater analytical results are summarized in Table 1 Laboratory analytical reports and
chain-of-custody documents are attached to this report
