Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
Mr. Charles Whitworth
Cal-Farm Supply
14 July 1989
Page 3
1
f
this material indicated that there was a potential for the chemical dioxin to
be present. Therefore, on the basis of this information revealed to us after
the initial work plan was prepared, dioxin analyses were added to the work
plan for two of the soil samples collected in the yard and for two wipe
i samples collected inside the warehouse building.
Several visits to the site were made prior to the site investigation to gather
- information about access to the site and the availability of utilities
required for drilling. On one visit, an above ground fuel dispensing pump was
noted which was presumably connected to an underground fuel storage tank.
Further discussion with a past Cal -Farm employee indicated that this tank
previously contained diesel fuel . Also, it was alleged by a Geiger Auction
A employee that a second underground fuel storage tank may be present at the
site near the warehouse building. On the basis of this report, an additional
soil boring and monitoring well were added to the work plan.
On all our visits to the site, the warehouse appeared to be empty. However,
several labels remained on the storage shelves The labels apparently
referred to the chemical products previously stored in the warehouse. This
information was used to determine the pesticide analyses performed during this
preliminary site investigation.
In summary, this investigation was intended to determine the following:
a o The possible source of nitrates previously detected in soils and
groundwater.
o The possible source of petroleum hydrocarbons previously detected in
groundwater.
o The distribution of pesticides in the storage yard and warehouse
building
o The contents of three storage trailers on the site.
FIELD INVESTIGATIONS
Introduction
.' On 5, 6, and 7 April 1989 two soil borings (B-1 and B-2) and four groundwater
monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4) were drilled on the Cal -Farm
Supply property The monitoring wells were screened in the saturated zone
encountered at approximately 10 to 20 feet below the ground surface to
characterize the extent of chemicals previously detected in the reconnaissance
groundwater sample collected by Roy F Weston, Inc Borings B-1 and B-2 were
drilled in the suspected vicinity of two reported underground fuel storage
I
I
