Mr. Charles Whitworth Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
Cal-Farm Supply
14 July 1989
Page 5
I
o Organophosphorus pesticides: Determined by EPA method 8140 using a
hexane/acetone extraction for soil . The resultant extract was
analyzed with a capillary column and a phosphorous detector.
o Organochlorine pesticides: Determined by EPA method 8080 using a
hexane/acetone extraction for soil followed by gas chromatography
(GC) analysis using a capillary column with an electron capture
Y detector.
o Triazine pesticides: Determined by EPA method 619 using a
hexane/acetone extraction for soil . The resultant extract was
analyzed with a capillary column and nitrogen detector.
o Chlorinated herbicides: Determined by EPA method 8150 using
acetone/ether extract, followed by base hydrolysis, followed by an
ether wash. The resultant extract was acidified, followed by an
additional ether extraction, followed by esterification using diazo-
methane, followed by a florlsil cleanup. The resultant final extract
was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) with a capillary column and
an electron capture detector.
o Nitrates: Determined by EPA method 352.1. Nitrate is extracted from
soil using boiled millipore water followed by colorimetric analysis
using brucine sulfate. Results are reported as nitrogen
t
Two soil samples (SS-11 and SS-12) and the two wipe samples were analyzed for
dioxin using the following procedure.
0 2,3,7,8-dioxin isomer: Determined by EPA method 8280 using toluene
extraction, followed by low resolution mass spectrometry.
Selected soil samples from each boring, groundwater samples from each
monitoring well , and a reconnaissance groundwater sample from boring 8-2 were
analyzed for the following constituents using the described methods-
0 Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) : Analysis performed on a hexane
extract by gas chromatography with a flame-ionization detector using
commercial hydrocarbons (gasoline and diesel) as standards.
o Purgeable aromatic constituents benzene, xylene, toluene, and
ethylbenzene (BXTE) : Analysis performed by EPA method 8020 using gas
chromatography methods (GC) .
o Nitrates. Determine by EPA method 352.1 by colorimetric analysis
using brucine sulfate. Results are reported as nitrogen.
i
