4.0 PROPOSED FIELD INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES/PROCEDURES
The following sections outline the field procedures and protocols to be
used to implement the scope of work. The objective of these activities is to
further characterize of the impacted soil and groundwater by drilling
additional soil borings, installing monitoring wells within the borings, and
collecting soil samples from the full vertical profile for geophysical soil
properties. Installing monitoring wells at the Site will allow groundwater
samples to be collected that are more representative of Site conditions and
during multiple monitoring events from the same location. Additionally,
the wells will provide information that will aid in the evaluation of
potential additional remediation options.
LESCO proposes to install four monitoring wells at the Site to determine
current soil conditions and evaluate groundwater characteristics and
conditions at the Site (Figure 4). The locations on Figure 4 are
approximate and may be slightly altered to adjust to Site conditions such
as traffic patterns and location usage. Currently, negotiations between
ERM and the Port of Stockton are taking place to access offsite wells for
monitoring water quality and groundwater elevation measurement. If
access to these wells is unable to be obtained, LESCO proposes to
construct an offsite well to aid the investigation.
4.1 PRE-FIELDWORK ACTIVITIES
Prior to initiating field activities, necessary permits will be obtained from
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD). This
Workplan, a master file record information form,Site mitigation fees, and
well permit applications will be submitted to SJCEHD prior to conducting
drilling activities. Additionally, Underground Service Alert subscribing
companies will be notified and a utility locator will be employed to
confirm locations of underground utilities prior to intrusive activities.
Upon completion of the investigation, soil and groundwater results will
be submitted to SJCEHD and RWQCB for review. The RWQCB will
review the data and provide their recommendations for any future
actions.
4.2 SOIL CHARACTERIZATION
For the purpose of monitoring well construction, soil borings will be
drilled using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 6-or 8-inch
ERM 7 LESCO,INC/0067373.01-N..ba 2007
