6 feet bgs in each of the borings. Soil samples were retained for analytical
testing at the following depths in the respective borings.
• SB-4: 0.5, 3.0,and 3.5 feet bgs.
• SB-5: 0.5, 1.0, and 4.0 feet bgs.
SB-6: 0.5,1.0, and 3.5 feet bgs.
SB-7: 0.5, 1.0, and 3.5 feet bgs.
Additionally, three shallow borings (SS-1 through SS-3) were advanced
tluough approximately 6 inches of asphalt to approximately 1.5 feet bgs
using the GeoProbe®unit to collect surface soil samples near areas of
heavy truck traffic.
Each soil sample was described and logged in the field by an ERM
geologist, under the supervision of a California Registered Geologist.
CJI Non-disposable equipment(e.g., drilling and sampling equipment)
utilized during the subsurface investigation was decontaminated prior to
use at each location and at the completion of field activities.
Decontamination was performed using diluted non-phosphate soap
followed by distilled water rinse. Investigative wastes, including soil
cuttings, decontamination water, and purge water, were contained on site
in a labeled 55-gallon steel drum and are pending disposal. Each boring
location was surveyed by a licensed California surveyor following
installation.
J3.2.2 Groundwater Characterization
After completion of each boring, a temporary well point was constructed
from a five-foot section of 1-inch-diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
casing with 0.01 inch slotted screen. Static water levels in the wells were
Jmeasured on 12 January 2004, approximately 20 hours after installation to
ldetermine the hydraulic gradient at the site.
'J The temporary wells did not yield enough water to be purged, and were
sampled immediately after static water levels were measured. The
sampling method utilized disposable, flexible, plastic tubing with a
decontaminated, stainless-steel ball and check valve on the end. The
plastic tubing was agitated up and down as the water entered the tubing,
' l and became trapped.
