• Fourth Quarter 2005
Thrifty#171
Page 2
A summary of historical analytical sampling results for TPHg, BTEX, and MTBE is provided in
Table 1, and oxygenate/alcohol results are summarized in Table 2 Copies of the EMC Field
Status Reports are presented in Appendix A, and copies of the laboratory analytical reports are
contained in Appendix B
TPHg, benzene, and MTBE lsoconcentration maps are presented as Figures 3, 4, and 5,
respectively The analytical laboratory results indicate that the highest concentration of TPHg
was detected in extraction well EW-5s(36,600 ug/L) The highest concentration of benzene was
detected in well MW-2 (140 ug/L) and the highest concentration of MTBE was detected in
extraction well EW-5d (454 ug/L) ETBE was not detected above the detection limit DIPE was
detected in wells MW-2 and TB-1 at a maximum concentration of 15 ug/L in TB-1 TAME was
detected in only one well (TB-1) at 17 ug/L TBA was detected in wells MW-2 and TB-1 at a
maximum concentration of 108 ug/L in TB-1 Ethanol and methanol were not detected above 20
milligrams per liter 1,2-DCA was detected at 18 ug/L in well MW-2 and at trace concentrations
of 3 7J ug/L and 3 IJ ug/L in wells MW-3R and TB-10, respectively The detection limits of
several compounds including DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, and 1,2-DCA was elevated in wells
EW-5s and EW-5d
Remediation Status
• On July 1, 1999, a Baker Furnace Thermal Oxidizer Unit was placed into operation, to destroy
vapors extracted by the SVE system Presently, the remediation system is connected to SVE
wells MW-2, MW-4, TB-3, TB-4, TB-6, TB-7, TB-9 (A, B), TB-11 (A, B), and TB-12 (A, B) A
map presenting the extraction well layout is shown as Figure 6 The only well operating this
quarter was VE-5 (100%) '
During this reporting period, the soil vapor extraction unit operated approximately 700 hours and
approximately 1,336 pounds of hydrocarbon as TPHg were removed as of September 29, 2005
(Table 3) The cumulative system total as of December 27, 2005, was approximately 33,237
hours of operation and approximately 144,252 pounds of hydrocarbon as TPHg removed Field
records of the system are provided in Appendix C
Effluent and influent vapor samples were collected on October 5, 2005 and on November 14,
2005 and were analyzed for TPHg by EPA Method 8015M and for BTEX, MTBE and other
oxygenates by EPA Method 8021B A historical summary of hydrocarbons removed by vapor
extraction is presented in Table 3, and individual well vapor concentrations are included in
Table 4 The analytical results for the vapor samples are provided in Appendix D
•
