REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF VADOSE <br /> AND GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS <br /> GENERAL_ CONSTRUCTION <br /> 1. Drill ngs are inspected by the operator prior to drilling to assure the rig is free of hydraulic <br /> fluid or oil leaks. <br /> 2. Prior to drilling any boring, the dnil rig is cleaned by an approved method to ensure that <br /> there is no contamination introduced by drilling and/or cross-contamination. <br /> 3. Drilling is performed with a hollow-stem continuous flight auger drill rig. No drilling fluids <br /> can be used unless approved pnor to drilling or otherwise specified. <br /> 4. Any drilling fluid additives shall be Iimited to inorganic, non-hazardous materials which <br /> will not mask or alter the constituents being monitored. Use of all additives must be <br /> indicated on the boring log as to depth, quantity. and type. Representative samples of the <br /> additive shall be retained for a period of 90 days. <br /> 5. Soil sampling equipment, drilling equipment, and materials used to construct a well must <br /> be compatible with contaminants expected and shall not donate, capture, mask, or alter <br /> the constituents to be analyzed. <br /> S. Prior to installation (same day) all well casings, casing fittings, screen, and all other <br /> components to be installed in the well are thoroughly cleaned by an approved method <br /> such as steam cleaning. Cleaning is not necessary for factory cleaned and wrapped <br /> materials. <br /> 7. The well heads are provided with water tight security structures and adequate well <br /> protection to prevent entry of surface water, accidental damage, unauthorized access, <br /> and vandalism. <br /> 0 <br />
